Greed is Good.

My upbringing was traditional in the most unconventional way.

I could stay up all night just as long as I got up the next morning, prepped, showered and ready for school.

I could listen to all types of music just as long as it wasn’t a bad influence(MPAA was cracking down on hair metal and hip hop heck 2 Live Crew was banned from performing and selling music!)

My upbringing was a mix of traditional god fearing catholic values with a touch of some good old fashion Mexican “self responsibility.”

I.E “I told you to stop doing that and now look at what you did!”

With that being said my parents never instilled something in me that I know at least 80 to 90% of the population suffers from.

That is the belief that money is the root of all evil.

With all the god fearing values my parents tried to instill in me you’d think that would pound “money was the root of all evil”.

Instead they always encouraged me to go out and make money and make lots of it.

I didn’t see it at the time but money was hard to come by when I was growing up. My parents pinched pennies and made sacrifices just to put food on the table and keep the lights on.

They knew money was needed and they knew with it came a better quality of life.

Greed is Good.

Money solves problems that NOT having money can cause.

Problems like lingering debt.

Poor health, bad living conditions, lack of proper nutrition. etc

When your poor and scraping the bottom of the barrel just to eat you’re going to want more out of life.

That’s when greed comes in.

The greed that I’m talking about is the greed to go after what you want in life. The desire to want to change your poor lot in life. That’s the greed that I’m talking about.

That’s the greed that is good.

Without that motivation and desire to be greedy then the ability to change your life and your prosperity goes down the drain, flushed down and collected like yesterdays waste.

When Greed Goes Wrong

Like all vices you got to moderate your consumption.

The 2008 Financial Crisis proved that too much of a good thing can be bad(and almost bring the end of Western Civilization)

Things go south when you destroy another persons lively hood just to get an extra 100k or that promotion with the corner office.

Knowing the product can cause harm but the demand is so great that you can’t resist the money rolling in.

The legendary copywriter Gary Halbert partnered up with some business associates to create and launch a product that was in demand.

Gary of course took care of the marketing and the other guys took care of the product.

Naturally Gary’s marketing bought in the customers but his partners failed to live up to their part of the bargain. Problems started to pile up and Gary recommended they hold off orders until they could catchup but his partners loved the money that was coming in.

They got greedy…

…Then the feds came….and took Gary away.

Greed got Gary locked up for nine months even though it wasn’t his fault.

Greed that hurts other people is bad.

Greed, for the lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right, greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind.

The root of evil isn’t money but the pursuit of it and leaving a trail of bodies behind….

….that’s bad.

Be greedy and true to your mission, your journey and your pursuit for a better way of life

Till Then, Stay Hungry,

Demetrio R
