The Hardest Thing About Running A Business That Nobody Talks About.

You know what the hardest thing about running a business is?

Trying to stay positive when everything around you is going to straight down the toilet.

Years ago I had a friend who took a part time job working at a pawn shop.

Man, he had some interesting stories with people trying to pawn junk thinking that they were valuable.

Every time when I saw him he’d start with, “Demetrio! You’ll never guess what someone tried to pawn!”

But one thing that was always recurring that stood out to me was that he’d often get business owners pawning things just to make payroll, or keep the lights on.

Of course me being young and not understanding the world of running a business I was always thinking to myself, “They’re running a business! They should be knee deep in cash!”

Years later and running a business of my own, the cold hard truth reveals itself.

The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

Running a business(much less a successful one) is one of the most hardest things you can do.

But what’s even tougher is running a business when everything around you is dying in a dumpster fire.

Day in and day out you spend hours either in the office or on the floor doing your best to make sure everything is running smoothly.

If you have employee’s you probably get stressed out when they either don’t show up to work, demand pay raises, or don’t care much about the inner workings of your business.

The Struggle is Real!

Running a business eats up all of your time leaving you with nothing so you could spend time with the family.

I remember talking with one marketer who missed his son’s first baseball game because the web designer he hired bailed during a launch.

And let’s not forget about services. Sooner or later you’re going to need them.

Lets say advertising.

You want to get your name and your brand out there to attract more customers.

So you decide to talk to digital agencies and you hear all the pitches, the sales talk and all the fluff. The cherry on top to cement the deal is, “Trust us.”

The day comes when you finally see the final product and then…..

You doubt the marketing peice and the crazy asining way the agency wants to market your business.

Influencer’s, blackhat CEO tactics, and every non nonsensical thing you can think of.

But worst of all a service that is PROVEN to help business become successful is diluted and you no longer believe in it.

It’s a tough road.

A long hard road to becoming a millionaire, running a successful business, and getting the financial freedom you so desperatly crave.

And that begs the question…

How Do You Stay Postive When Your Business Is Struggling!

It’s hard I know.

You’re jaded and frustrated.

And your support structure is collapsing like a house made of toothpicks.

It’s hard to see the light when the darkness is closing in like a tight circle.

The first thing that’s always helped me is…

….Embrace and Celebrate the Small Victories.

When I first started in sales I was a HUGE introvert.

Just the thought of meeting with a stranger and persuading them to buy made me sick to my stomach.

I realized I need to embrace the suck that comes with sales and just enjoy the ride.

I celebrated every milestone.

I went from being afraid to talk with strangers to having full blown conversations with people who’ve I barely met.

Depending on what’s going on with your business, you have to celebrate the small victories.

Finally got a merchant account that won’t ban you when you make six figures? Celebrate!

Sent that email you’ve been dreading to a cold prospect? Celebrate!

Finally spent some time with the wife and kids? Celebrate!

Celebrate and enjoy the small victories.

Dedicate Some Time To Learning A New Skill For Your Business.

This sounds hard I know.

There aren’t enough hours in the day since you’re working in your business and making time for family.

But hear me out for a second.

Ever read, “The Richest Man In Babylon?”

There is a rule in that book that says, “Pay Yourself First.”

That’s right. Dedicate 1 hour each day to learn that new skill that will help you in your business.

That one hour is for you to learn that new skill…..nothing else!

Yes it’ll take a while BUT I promise you….the dividends will be stacked in your favor!

And finally….

…Take a step back!

Yes! Just take a step back and relax a bit.

Take a walk, workout, or find a way to release that stress.

And with that, I’ll talk to you later.

Till then, stay hungry,
